TRY THE SPIRIT

A stern warning from Jesus is given in Matthew 24:24-25, For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.

Apostle John also warned us about types of spirit. 1st John 4:1, Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Many persons often refer to themselves as being spiritual. This means that there is a spiritual connection somewhere. However, we must be careful about our spiritual connection because there is an evil spirit and a good spirit. The evil spirit is a false spirit, a gift from Satan. The good spirit is the Holy Ghost, it displays a Christ-like disposition.

In these times there is much controversy about the reception and operation of the Holy Spirit. This is not a new development because the stalwarts of the Bible had to contend with spiritual oppositions. That is why John 4:1 tells us not to believe every spirit because there are many spirits in the world. Those with a false spirit are agents of the Devil and they will function as false prophets. The true messengers of God have a true connection with God. False prophets are everywhere masquerading as saints. Satan knows that the best way to obstruct the forth-telling of the gospel is to put pretenders in position of authority. In this way they can attempt to thwart the Ministry. These pretenders preach and teach false doctrines in their attempt to be crowd pleasers.

How do you know the Spirit of God?

Those who possesses the Spirit of God will profess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  They must not only do this but they must follow the examples set by our Master. The Child of God who is on the right path does not display actions that God hates. These behavioural practices are outlined in Proverbs 6:16-19,six things doth the Lord hates, yea, the seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

The Spirit of God which is the Holy Spirit motivates the believer to walk righteously and humbly before God. It is the Spirit of God which strengthens and keeps believers during daily turmoil. It is this spirit which gives a settled peace and generates obedience to God’s Commandments.

Have you ever felt as if you are in a state of spiritual shipwreck and you feel as if you cannot cope? In your time of gloom do you feel a sense of hope and inner peace? This refreshing feeling which you had experienced is the Holy Spirit. It is the power of God which gives reassurance and tranquility. There is not a Child of God who is able to cope with the trials of this life without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Even those who reject Christ cannot exist without His mercies exercised through the Holy Spirit.

The False Spirit

A false spirit genders strife, envy, debate, bitterness, deceit, seditions, discord and every act of demonic influence. One who claims to be a believer and displays such behaviours may deceive the unperceiving but is exposed to those of godly understanding. The false spirit does not give peace so one who possesses such will always be stirring trouble internally.

Let us pray

Eternal and Most Worthy Father, we come to you in the name of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. We thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit and we ask that You forgive us of our sins and purify us so that we can obtain Your Indwelling Power. We desire to be vessels of honour for You, therefore we beseech You to remove from us any spiritual connections which are contrary to Your righteousness. Father, we ask that You grant us wisdom so that we will be able to discern between purity and evil in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
