  • PARENTING IN A CHANGING WORLD

PARENTS - CHILDREN FIRST EXAMPLE   I am aware that there are numerous forms of religion but when I am speaking about family life matters, I am focusing on Christianity. Because first and foremost it is my spiritual foundation. I believe in Almighty God the One Supreme God and in Jesus Christ His Beloved Begotten Son and the Saviour of the world. I believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God regardless of the challenges it has passed through. I believe that humans ought to worship God and also to assemble for worship as outlined in Hebrews 10 and verse 25, Not forsakin g the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.   I believe that children are from God as said in Psalm 127 verses 3-5 , Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. I believe that each man’s quiver is made to securely keep a specific amount, of arrows so it is that each man should not have excess arrows in his quiver because they will not be properly cared for. They will become damaged goods because they are not securely packaged.   Would you agree that parents are primary examples for their children? Children learn much more by observing their parents than by listening to their lectures, especially if what the parents speak is not what they do.   Parents should know that children are not showpieces instead they are God’s gift and He expects us to treat them as He treats us. Parents are to: Ø Build a stable home for their children whether it be a tent or a palace is not important Ø Love and correct their children without fear or favour Ø Be a friend, mentor, counsellor, advisor and when necessary, a judge Ø Provide for children materially, physically, psychologically and spiritually Ø Fathers should play the role of a father 1st Timothy 5verse 8 But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.   Ø Mothers are gatekeepers; they should assist the fathers in preparing the children to become outstanding men and women, thus fulfilling God's plan for their lives. Ø  Proverbs 13:22 reminds us that a good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children.   A child goes through several stages: first a babe, then a toddler afterward an infant, then comes the puberty stage and being an adolescent, moving on to being a teen and escalating into adulthood. It is terrifying that many children do not get the opportunity to enjoy these stages of development because they are forced into adulthood through their behaviour or that of others. This is abuse. There are different types forms of abuse inclusive of: mental, physical, psychological, sexual, carnal and psychosocial and every type carries damaging effects. Some children are not allowed to get a good education, some are forced to fend for themselves and their siblings, some suffer immense physical and psychological abuse, thus taking on great financial responsibilities, some become early entrepreneurs, some are living with partners much older than themselves, some are employed are not paid the correct wages. Some are sold into all types of bondage. Some are prostitutes or used as sex slaves. These are only a few of the many snares into which our children have fallen. All these things happen to our children because homes are shattered. There is no spiritual foundation. We are reminded in Psalm 127 verse1- E xcept the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.   Children are often left unguided; they make decisions for themselves. Many of us place our focus on material things and we transmit these same values to our children. Some parents have minimal time for their children therefore the children are reared on the street or by peers, yet these parents are surprised and defensive when their children get in to deep trouble. The world is in trouble because most parents are not effective parents. Many children are not taught common courtesies yet they are expected to be courteous. They are reared in strife and conflict and suffer brutality and hunger yet we expect them to be gentle.   Children are often attired immodestly, go where only adults should go, not taught biblical principles, left unsupervised, yet we cannot understand why teen pregnancy, abortions, drug addiction, crime, school dropouts and such are on a rapid increase. Proverbs 22:6 says, train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.   Tolerance is the buzz word today. We tolerate everything that is wrong and we use feeble theories as the foundation source for our tolerance. We reject the Bible, which is the word of God but we cling for dear life to the words and teachings of ungodly people.    Proverbs 13:24 tells us that he that spareth his rod hateth his own son but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes . Today we do rarely use effective punishment instead we find reasons to justify our children misbehaviours. The rejected word of God does not sanction abuse but man’s theories have caused a multiplication of abuse against children and others.   Many children are disrespectful yet expects to be respected. Proverbs 29:15 tells us that a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame .  The exercise of moral values are on the decrease. We need to teach our children the magic words: please, thank you, excuse me, I’m sorry. They need to seek permission and guidance from the caregiver before doing something and care givers need to give good guidance.   Decrease in sincere worship leads to an increase in ungodliness in every form. Families need to return to God. Many dispute the Bible or believe that the Church is for the old people. Many children do not have a Bible or any knowledge of God and Jesus but they are given all types of expensive devices for entertainment. God’s words are often not taught in the home and it is absent in the community and it is taken out of the school curriculum. The homes and communities are suffering from spiritual drought. Proverbs 29 verse 18 says, Where, there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.  Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he . Bearing this in mind ask yourselves what kind of children are we rearing to rule us in the future.   Deuteronomy 6:7 reminds us how God instructed Israel to teach their children His words continually. He said, and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house and when thou walkest by the way and when thou liest down and when thou riseth up.   Apostle Paul commented on Eunice and Lois for teaching Timothy the words of God. Timothy absorbed these teachings and became one of the greatest evangelists. Children who are exposed to God’s word are better able to make the right choices and are less open to abuse.   Parenting is a mammoth task but the Bible is replete with information which will help parents to be as God desires. When we turn to these biblical principles our children will be safer.   In this economic crisis many parents leave their children and go to foreign lands in search of a better life. Sadly, oftentimes the children are lost while their parents are busy hunting wealth. Can barrels or money transfers rear children? Let us offer the love, protection and guidance needed by our children. Let us pray with them and for them. Let us remember that if we abuse our children, it is a terrible sin. Do not break bones nor hearts, do not sell them or pawn them out. They are God’s jewels; that is why Jesus said, except you repent and become like little children you cannot enter the Kingdom of God.     In summary what are parents to do: Ønot only speak about love and moral values but also model such in your daily life Ø  Model your Christian beliefs. No sexual abuse, no verbal abuse, no physical abuse i.e. hitting or inflicting pain on your children just to vent your anger) Ø From their earliest years teach your children to respect you, themselves and others Ø Diligently administer discipline and be able to identify the differences between defiance and immaturity Ø Focus on what will help your children to become godly persons Ø Know that each child is unique so never compare or degrade any Ø Respect each child as a unique person   No parent is perfect but with God you can do an excellent job. The Bible is replete with instructions. You can be the parent God wants you to be; just use the tools He has given. Writer- A. E. • For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Philippians 4:11

Don't Envy the World   http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ 3rd John 3-5, Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. This is one of the most misinterpreted texts, today. This Scripture is telling us that John’s desire is that all believers prosper  spiritually and be in good health spiritually and physically.     Presently most preachers are focusing on the teaching of worldly prosperity, which can be termed one of the doctrines of the devil according to 1st Timothy 4:1, Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.   It is common taught that if you are serving God you should not be poor. However this is not true. Jesus, Himself said in Matthew 26:11 that the poor will always be with us. He said this although He knew that His Father has promised to bless all who serve Him faithfully and adhere to His Commandments. He knew of the blessings promised to those who are obedient to Him, help others, give one tenth of their earnings and also free will offerings to His Ministry.   Money gathered in the Ministry is not for someone’s selfish personal use but for the satisfying of the different needs of the Ministry.    The prosperity doctrine is steadily taking away the craving which persons should have for salvation. Many preachers and teachers are avoiding the teaching of the effects of sin, the need for repentance and conversion and the necessity of restitution. Their main focus is on world prosperity and this has sidetracked persons from seeking salvation through Jesus Christ, instead persons are fervently seeking wealth and other temporary things which will burn with fire and brimstone. This doctrine of prosperity breeds covetousness and greed.   Accumulating wealth in itself is not evil but it becomes evil when we twist the Scriptures to influence persons to deviate from the plain path and begin worshipping the god of materialism. Wealth and riches also become sin when it is obtained unfairly. Many persons who desire to walk with Christ think that they are missing out on earthly goodies. Their itching ears and palms push them into the den of iniquity. They may achieve their heart’s desire yet have no peace. Their disobedience has created a spiritual void which can only be filled when the focus is turned to Almighty God.   Have you ever thought that being a disciple of Christ means you are missing out on the things of the world? Have you ever thought about what life would be like if you had never had knowledge of Jesus? Do you waste precious minutes imagining what it would be like to live your lives in pursuit of happiness through money, possessions, social status and to not have the moral constraints place upon you as is done since you have accepted Christ as your Saviour.   Are you envious of those who live in the world? Does it seem like they get all the freedom and fun in life? I’m sure you can all think of examples in your own lives where your religious beliefs have prevented you from doing something that you would have liked to do.   Psalm 73 addresses this very issue of coveting the things that are of the world. Psalm 73:1 says, Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart . Why did the psalmist believe that God was good to Him? In Psalm 73:3 he tells us, for I was envious of the foolish when I saw the prosperity of the wicked . It is this prosperity of the wicked that is the temptation to us, for the flesh seeks pleasure and sometimes what is out there in the world seems so much more pleasurable. It is easy to look at the proud or wicked person and only see their loose way of life and the ease with which they seem to pass through this world. This is deception; the one who serves God faithfully without wealth is better than those who seem to possess much of earth’s goods and are without Christ. Proverbs 17:1 reminds us, Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.   Believers must know that the flesh has the basic characteristic of envy and it’s something that our spiritual mind has to keep under control. It is something that the Psalmist says almost got the better of him. David realized the necessity of keeping focused in Psa. 73:2, he stated but as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped . H is feet had almost stumbled; he had almost slipped up because of his envy. Do you remember what happened to him when he was lured by his desire for Bathsheba? This was more than a casual look he had almost lost his spiritual relationship with God. Let us look at some of the snares we may encounter when we seek or obtain prosperity which is not of God.   Having obtained the goodies, it seems as if they are not under any constraints. They appear happy while others are afflicted with the burdens of life. Psa. 73:5 states, for they are not in trouble as others; neither are they plagued like other men .  They have nothing to worry about until death takes them.     They are proud of their accomplishments, their possessions, their power, their status and they wear it with pride like a beautiful necklace that they show off to everyone and they don’t have any reservations about being unjust or cruel to others. Their sole intention is to achieve and gain mobility in society. They desire to inflate their pride. Therefore, pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth .  (Psa. 73:6-9) They have more than they could reasonably expect, they have power, money, possessions yet they are always seeking to gain more. Psa. 73:12 tells us Behold, these are the ungodly who prosper in the world, and they increase in riches . How often do we feel like that, when we see wicked people enjoying a life of ease, having much but labouring little? How sad do you feel because of their self-centredness? How does it impact you when they lack care for others, only considering themselves.   This is the problem that the Psalmist faces, he is struggling to understand the affluence of the world, but he knew that the world was not a greater attraction than the attraction of everlasting life. He is peering over that wall and contemplating all the things that he sees and I’m sure we do the very same thing. Do we struggle with the same thoughts; do we wish we were on the other side of the wall?   The human mind could not understand how God allowed persons to gain prosperity although they refused to accept Him in truth. David also struggled with this though, he said, in Psalm 73:16-17 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end . Yes, it was in the place of truth that David got a full understanding of the end of all those who crave after and obtain ungodly prosperity. Therefore, I encourage those of you who desire to serve God faithfully to wait patiently on the Lord. He will bless you as He desires. Do not become envious of the goodies around you. God will give you as He desires. Be careful of the gifts which the Devil brings. I would like you to know that unlike God he gives nothing free. Therefore, seek and ask for the right path and walk in it.    Let us pray Almighty God my loving and kind Father, I thank You for providing my daily needs. Please help me to understand the importance of being contented with Your provision. I pray that the Holy Spirit teach me how to be thankful and to always praise You for Your goodness towards me even when I am discontented and show signs of envy. Please help me to recognise those who You have sent to help me and to express my gratitude to them. Help me to care for others as I desire to me cared for. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.   Vanity of vanities saith the Preacher; vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labours which he taketh under the sun? One generation passeth away and another generation cometh but the earth abideth forever. The sun also ariseth and the sun goeth down and hasteth to its place where it arose The wind goeth toward the south and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually and the wind returneth again according to its circuits. All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come thither they return again All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing nor the ear filled with hearing. Ecclestiastes 1:2-8       Writer - A. E. • WHY BE BAPTISED?

THY VOWS O LORD ARE UPON ME   http://www. pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/  ‘ Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.’      John 3:7   What does it mean to be born again? Being born again is a change similar to the caterpillar changing into a beautiful butterfly. When you are born again, you are a new person, your lifestyle is changed, your heart is inclined to righteousness and by the power of God, you subdue your carnal desires.   For God so loved the world, that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16   This is a very popular Scripture and one that is favourable to us because we all desire to be loved, especially by God. However, we must remember that it is in giving that we receive. Jesus came as our Saviour; He was the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world. (John 1:29) John the forerunner of Jesus declared that while he baptised with water, Jesus would baptise with fire. This fire is the Holy Spirit which is given to all whom are walking righteously before God.   Before Jesus began His Ministry intensely, He went to John to be baptised. He was not baptised because He needed to show that He had renounced the sinful pleasures of this world because Jesus had no sin. He went through the procedure to show us the importance of being baptised.   While Jesus was standing in the water after His baptism, the Spirit of God came upon Him and a voice from heaven clearly declared ‘ This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.’  (Matthew 3:16-17). This was God’s way of endorsing Jesus’ Ministry in the eyes of the people. God will do the same for us when we follow Jesus’ example.   Baptism  is such an important step , that one must be totally committed before doing it. The believer should also ensure that the proper procedure is followed. Sprinkling is not baptism; one must be immersed in water.   Notice that it was after the baptism that Jesus received the Holy Spirit. This is a lesson to make us aware, that it is after our total commitment has been expressed through baptism, that God will pour His blessings on us. The motive for us getting baptised is to show the world that we have buried the old man and is now walking and living a new life.   In Acts chapter 10 we read that Apostle Peter was sent to preach the gospel of salvation to the Gentiles. The Jews would not readily accept the Gentiles as members of the Body of Christ therefore they were shown an extraordinary sign. Cornelius and those to who Apostle Peter spoke received the gift of the Holy Ghost without being baptised. There is no record of this incident being repeated; God did it for a special purpose.   THE COMMISSION   At the end of His Ministry Jesus gave a commission. He said ‘ Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost .” Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always even unto the end of the world. ’ Matthew 28: 19-20  Every disciple of Christ is a propagator of the gospel. As an ambassador, believers must encourage the hearers of the word to repent and be baptised.   WHY BE BAPTISED?   Why should one be baptised? When we are baptised, we are baptised into Jesus’ death. Jesus became the sacrifice for sin. Man sinned willfully and Jesus also willingly gave His life to redeem us from sin to a life of righteousness (Hebrews 10:28). So, Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many.  Before Christ died animals were used as sacrifice for sin. This could not adequately cleanse us so Jesus came as our Rescuer. The songwriter asked, “Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing blood are you washed in the blood of the Lamb ?”   Baptism shows that we are buried with Christ and even as Christ was raised from the dead, so we rise from the water to walk in the newness of life. Therefore, when we are willing to be baptised, we are expressing our faith that Jesus died for our sins and was resurrected on the third day and is now ascended to His Father. Presently, He is sitting by His Father’s right-hand interceding for us.   Why reject this wonderful opportunity to become a member of God’s family? This is our only guarantee of being reconciled to God and obtaining eternal life. Be reminded that Romans 6:23 says, ‘ The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. ’   HOW DID THE APOSTLES FULFIL THE COMMISSION?   The Apostles continued the Ministry after Christ’s ascension. They fearlessly expounded the gospel and led many to baptism. On the day of Pentecost, when Christ’s disciples were gathered in harmony with God and man, the Holy Spirit came as a mighty rushing wind and anointed the Saints. Apostle Peter declared the Ministry of Jesus to the hearers and thousands were convicted and repented of their sins. After their conviction they asked ‘ What shall we do? ’ Today, even as you read this tract, you may be asking a similar question. I encourage you give your heart in baptism to the Lord because tomorrow may not be yours to live.   After the hearers asked for spiritual guidance, Peter said unto them, ‘ Repent and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.’ Acts 2:38. The listeners gladly accepted and about three thousand souls were baptised that day. God’s power led that multitude in submission; therefore, you too can be led. Today, as you hear His words, do not harden your heart.   The Church continued to grow as the followers of Christ ministered to sinners. Satan challenged the Ministry but God saved such as should be saved. The Gentiles gladly accepted the golden opportunity of salvation. When Peter saw how God worked in the lives of Cornelius and his family, he commanded that they be baptised in the name of the Lord. The Lord referred to here is Jesus Christ.   Phillip also baptised the Ethiopian eunuch. People everywhere saw the importance of being immersed in water depicting Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. They embraced the gospel of truth and light. They were eager to move out of darkness into the marvellous light of salvation. Would not it be good for you to make a similar decision today? Remember if you walk in darkness, you will stumble and fall.   In Acts 19 we read that Paul was passing through Ephesus and he saw some disciples. He asked them if they had received the Holy Ghost. They had not received it, so he asked how they were baptised. They told him that they were baptised according to John’s baptism.   Paul told them that John baptised with the baptism of repentance saying that they should believe on Jesus but it was now necessary to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ. When the disciples heard this, they accepted re-baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus. Here we see that when one is not baptised in the name of Jesus Christ a second baptism is recommended.   WHY BAPTISE IN THE NAME OF LORD JESUS CHRIST ?   One may wonder how Jesus said baptism should be done in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and the Apostles to whom He left the Ministry did not use those terms. Let us examine the term used and decide if they faithfully followed God’s commission. Remember Jesus said in the name of therefore we are to find the name. Who is the Father ? What is His name? in Isaiah 42:8 God said, ‘I am the Lord : that is my name.’   Who is the Son ? What is His name? Matthew 1:21 answers the question. It reads, ‘and she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt  call His name Jesus.   What is the Holy Spirit ? It is the power of God . Do you remember that after Jesus was baptised the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a dove. It was after this that He was declared to be Christ, the Anointed One. Jesus asked His disciples, who do men say that I the Son of man, am ? After their response, He asked them who was He. Peter answered, ‘ Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus responded, Blessed art thou Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven . ’ (Matthew 16:13-17). Jesus told His disciples not to tell anyone that He was Jesus, the Christ.   Readers, there are several steps which lead to baptism. These are: hearing the words, believing, accepting, repentance, conversion, then baptism. Be reminded that Jesus was pure and sinless, yet He was baptised by John the Baptist in the River Jordan. Therefore, I implore you now to repent and be baptised for the remission of your sins. Baptism saves us and is the answer of a good conscience toward God . 1st. Peter 3:21   Prayer   Heavenly Father I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ my Redeemer. I thank You for granting me the opportunity to call You, Father. I pray that You will forgive me of my sins and inspire me daily. Lord, help me to keep my baptismal covenant with You and be a true follower of Christ. Thanks for washing me with the water and Thy word. Please grant me wisdom and strength to minister to others so that they will know about You. I love You Father. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.    Writer - A. E. FISHER We welcome your questions and feedback.  You may contact us at ofthelivinggodchurch@gmail.com

  • FORGIVE?????Should I???or Should I not???

http://www.pillarandgroundoftruth.online/ FORGIVE????? Should I??? or Should I not???   How often have you struggled with the hurt and disappointments which life throws at you? As you feel the pain you cannot decide whether or not to forgive those who had hurt you.   Today I want you to understand that you must let go. If you hold on to the pain and allow bitterness to grow, you will find it harder each day to forgive those who had offended you.   It does not matter what someone has done to you. You must let go or else your emotions shall hold you as a prisoner for the rest of your life.   Unforgiveness is like cancer it eats and destroys you; it takes away your joy. It prevents you from enjoying the goodness of life. It causes you to become cynical and bitter. Not only that, but you may become withdrawn, unwilling to trust others or become selfish. Unforgiveness is so destructive that you are not to accommodate it even for a short time.    Is there a time or a situation when you might choose to forgive and another when you might choose not to forgive?    What does the Bible say about the aptitude to forgive or not to forgive?   Matthew 18:21-35  Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Therefore, is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So, when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise, shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not everyone his brother their trespasses.   How often have you sinned against someone and have desired the individual’s forgiveness? How did you react when you were forgiven? How did you react when you were not forgiven? At the time of the incident did you believe that you were deserving of forgiveness; do you still hold this belief?   The servant begged for the king’s forgiveness yet he was unwilling to forgive his friend. The friend owed him a lot less than what he had owed the king and he knew that his friend was in a worse position than himself, yet he refused to forgive the friend. Many of us are very unfair and hard-hearted.   We desire good for ourselves but withhold good from others. The king was very angry when he learnt about the servant’s wickedness. Therefore, the king withdrew his mercy and exacted judgement against the unforgiving servant.   Think about the effect of your behaviour before you commit an act. What goes around comes around. Jesus taught us to pray saying, “ Forgive, us our debts as we forgive our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12) Jesus further stated in Matthew 6:14-15, For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father, forgive your trespasses.   Isn’t it unfair that you would desire that someone forgives you but you are unwilling to forgive others. Or wouldn’t it hurt that you are exercising forgiveness to others while they are unforgiving towards you?  Yes, you may be experiencing mixed emotions but you must do what is godly, right and just.   Jesus tells you that if someone sins against you seventy times seven which is four hundred and ninety times in one day or as pertaining to an issue you ought to forgive the individual. This is showing you that forgiveness is not exercised in measure. This is not an advice for you to leave yourself open to the evil intents of others. You ought to exercise wisdom and protect yourself from future assaults but you must be merciful.   Some persons will tell you that if you have forgiven someone you should forget about the incident. To totally forget is very difficult unless you are suffering from amnesia. You will not altogether forget because it is etched in your memory but you are not to harp on the incident.   Remember that it is impossible for anyone to be more forgiving than God. In the Scriptures we read how God outlined the sins which the people had committed. Even though they had asked for His forgiveness and He had forgiven them He still reminded them of their sins when necessary. In Numbers 14:22, He could tell them the exact number of times that they had sinned against Him. He said, “ Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times , and have not hearkened to my voice”   While Jesus was hanging on the cross surrounded by His tormentors and persecutors, He exclaimed, “ Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do . (Luke 23:34) This is the kind of love that believers in Christ must show.   Luke 6:32-36 tells us, For, if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.  But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father, also is merciful.   Have you accepted Christ as your Saviour and Friend? Are you looking forward to His coming? Do you want to live forever with the Lord? If you do, you must forgive others and also forgive yourself in sincerity. Ask the Lord to give you a heart like His. Being born again includes having a forgiving heart. God be with you.   Prayer   Almighty God please help me to forgive everyone regardless of how deeply I have been hurt. I do not want to be an unjust person who needs forgiveness but is unwilling to forgive others. Please help me to also forgive myself of all my misdeeds. Thanks for Your amazing love. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.       Writer - A. E. FISHER We welcome your questions and feedback.  You may contact us at ofthelivinggodchurch@gmail.com

  • TRUE CONVERSION

https://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/post/true-conversion DO I NEED TO CHANGE MY LIFESTYLE? DO I NEED TO BE CONVERTED?   None of us was born perfect and everyone needs to repent and accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour. When you accept Christ as your personal Saviour you will be obedient to God. This is a sign of conversion.   Nothing in life is static; there are always changes. This is also true of our individual lives. Our bodies change as we grow older and our lifestyle also changes.   God does not expect us to remain in any sinful condition because He has given us the chance to repent and be a better person.   Although it is important to do things which will cause physical changes for example males cutting their hair to ensure proper grooming the most essential change in your life is a spiritual change.   Man was made in the image of God but sin marred that image. Romans 8:5-8 reminds us, “ For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God .   The word carnal means to be sensual, wanton, lascivious, fleshly and animalistic. These verses are telling us that the natural person is more attuned to do wrong than to follow the precepts of God. Anyone who desires to obey God must become more attuned to God than with the world. One can only be attuned to God when one has been converted.   How can you know if you are converted or know that someone is converted? What is expected of a converted person? Is there possibility that one can be converted yet carnal?   Peter was a Disciple of Jesus and he loved the Lord. He was one of Jesus’ favourite workers, yet he had a problem. He believed that Jesus was the Messiah but he also thought that Jesus would set up His Kingdom right then on the earth and destroy the dominance of the Romans. Thus, it was that Peter’s focus was a little out of line. Jesus recognised that Peter had a good heart but needed special assistance.   We read in Luke 22: 31-32, “ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.   At first because of his unconverted state, Peter was unable to properly complete the tasks God had called him to do. However, later when he was converted Jesus gave him, his mandate. Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me more than these? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed My lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? He saith unto Him, Yea, Lord; Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed My sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time, Lovest thou Me? And he said unto Him, Lord, Thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed My sheep . (John 21:15-17)   Conversion was the changing point in Peter’s life. After his conversion he became a powerful Apostle of Christ. He was no longer afraid as he was when he denied Christ; he became very bold.   Zacchaeus was another converted soul. He was extremely happy when he met Jesus. While Jesus was speaking with him. he realized that he was unconverted and needed Christ. Zacchaeus then confessed his sins. He said, “ Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. Jesus was pleased with him and told him, “ This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.   When you are converted, you will seek to make restitution. Restitution means to give back anything which you had stolen. If you had told a lie about someone you must now speak the truth about what you had done; if you stole money or kill someone you must publicly admit your actions.   There can be no conversion without restitution. Restitution clears the conscience and give you peace.   A converted soul is easily identified because that individual operates differently from the unconverted. Converted souls speak, eat, dress, talk, walk and think different from others. The change in their lives is both inward and outward. You ought to know that whatever is within your heart is displayed on the outside.   When Paul and Silas were imprisoned, they prayed and worshipped God and God delivered them with a mighty hand. There was an earthquake and a great shaking and the keeper of the prison thought that the prisoners had escape. He was about to commit suicide when the Apostle Paul called to him. The warder was relieved; then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.   The jailer truly repented and was converted. When he heard the word, he immediately accepted. On receiving the gospel, he immediately became an evangelist by taking the gospel to his household.   While Stephen was expounding the Gospel of Truth to the Jews, the people became extremely angry but their anger erupted when he told them that he saw Jesus standing on the right hand of God in heaven. When he spoke about what he saw the people began to stone him to death. Stephen called to God to receive his spirit. However, the most remarkable thing was that he asked the Lord not to lay the sin to the charge of the murderers. This showed that Stephen was truly converted.   The word of God clearly tells us how we ought to behave and how we can inherit eternal life. Acts 3:19 tells us, “ Repent  ye therefore, and be converted , that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord .”   Isaiah 55:7 advises, “ Let the wicked forsake  his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon .”   In Matthew 18:3 Jesus said, " Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.”   A converted heart is more willing to obey God than to satisfy carnal desires. Therefore, a converted heart will live by the Laws of God Psalms 19:7 - The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Luke 21:36 - Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.   Let us pray   Eternal Father, God of the Universe. Creator and Sustainer of all things. I give You the honour and majesty due to You.   Lord, I am grateful for the chance to be a new creature in Christ Jesus. I thank You that You did not give up on me while I was rebelling against You. How can I express my gratitude for the opportunity to be named a child of the Most High God. It is my desire to be Your ambassador. Help me to remain humble and obedient. Please help me to keep my eyes focused on godly things and not on the rudiments of this ungodly world. I am grateful that I am no longer held captive by my carnal desires. Father I can feel Your forgiving and renewing love. Thanks for giving me a clear conscience.  As I travel on this new journey, I know that there will be challenges but I am leaving everything in Your care. I ask that You continue to anoint me with Your power. Grant me the spiritual strength to keep on the garment of purity which You have placed on me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.     Writer - A. E. • TRY THE SPIRIT

https://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/TRY THE SPIRIT A stern warning from Jesus is given in Matthew 24:24-25, For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.   Apostle John also warned us about types of spirit. 1st John 4:1 , Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.   Many persons often refer to themselves as being spiritual. This means that there is a spiritual connection somewhere. However, we must be careful about our spiritual connection because there is an evil spirit and a good spirit. The evil spirit is a false spirit, a gift from Satan. The good spirit is the Holy Ghost, it displays a Christ-like disposition.   In these times there is much controversy about the reception and operation of the Holy Spirit. This is not a new development because the stalwarts of the Bible had to contend with spiritual oppositions. That is why John 4:1 tells us not to believe every spirit because there are many spirits in the world. Those with a false spirit are agents of the Devil and they will function as false prophets. The true messengers of God have a true connection with God. False prophets are everywhere masquerading as saints. Satan knows that the best way to obstruct the forth-telling of the gospel is to put pretenders in position of authority. In this way they can attempt to thwart the Ministry. These pretenders preach and teach false doctrines in their attempt to be crowd pleasers.   How do you know the Spirit of God?   Those who possesses the Spirit of God will profess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  They must not only do this but they must follow the examples set by our Master. The Child of God who is on the right path does not display actions that God hates. These behavioural practices are outlined in Proverbs 6:16-19, six things doth the Lord hates, yea, the seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.   The Spirit of God which is the Holy Spirit motivates the believer to walk righteously and humbly before God. It is the Spirit of God which strengthens and keeps believers during daily turmoil. It is this spirit which gives a settled peace and generates obedience to God’s Commandments.   Have you ever felt as if you are in a state of spiritual shipwreck and you feel as if you cannot cope? In your time of gloom do you feel a sense of hope and inner peace? This refreshing feeling which you had experienced is the Holy Spirit. It is the power of God which gives reassurance and tranquility. There is not a Child of God who is able to cope with the trials of this life without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Even those who reject Christ cannot exist without His mercies exercised through the Holy Spirit.   The False Spirit   A false spirit genders strife, envy, debate, bitterness, deceit, seditions, discord and every act of demonic influence. One who claims to be a believer and displays such behaviours may deceive the unperceiving but is exposed to those of godly understanding. The false spirit does not give peace so one who possesses such will always be stirring trouble internally.   Let us pray   Eternal and Most Worthy Father, we come to you in the name of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. We thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit and we ask that You forgive us of our sins and purify us so that we can obtain Your Indwelling Power. We desire to be vessels of honour for You, therefore we beseech You to remove from us any spiritual connections which are contrary to Your righteousness. Father, we ask that You grant us wisdom so that we will be able to discern between purity and evil in Jesus name we pray. Amen.    Writer - A. E. • THE BELIEVER'S FOUNDATION

https://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ 1st Corinthians 3:11 ,  For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.   There are many foundations in this world but they can be placed into two main categories - spiritual and a carnal. The spiritual foundation gives life. It was the spiritual foundation which had caused the woman at the well of Samaria to throw away her waterpot and run saying, ‘ come see a man. ’ The carnal foundation takes away life. It brings death and because of it God’s wrath will be poured out on the disobedient and the terrible words depart from me I know you not will be uttered. Each of us has an opportunity to select our foundation.    I desire to speak to you about the believer’s foundation . This foundation is set in Christ because He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Isaiah 9: 6 is a prophecy pertaining to Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. It tells us, For, unto us a child is born unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon His shoulder and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace . The Scriptures said the government shall be upon His shoulder; this means the He is above all God’s creation and has the spiritual responsibility of redeeming us to God. He is the Mediator between God and man; not only is He a mediator but He is also the Saviour of mankind. Through Him only can one access everlasting life.   Jesus is also referred to as the Mighty God and He is truly the Mighty God. His Father gave Him the power to create things. Jesus is referred to as the Word . John 1:1 tells us that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. This does not mean that the Godhead consists of Jesus only because Jesus Himself stated that He has a Father.  This Scripture points to the bond and oneness between the Father and the Son. Jesus also said if you have seen Me, you have seen the Father . Colossians 1:16 tells us, ‘ For by Him were all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominion or principalities or powers all things were created by Him and for Him. Psalm 33: 9 tells us that - God spoke and it was done He commanded and it stood fast . It was the Word  spoken that created things.    Jesus is the Prince of Peace; every Child of God must have peace. If you are a Child of God and you do not have peace you need to return to Calvary. John 14: 27 records Jesus saying,   Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  Our Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace that is why Children of God cannot be brawlers, mockers, jeerers and such because we are called for peace. Isaiah 9: 7 also said of the increase of His government there shall be no end. This is reassuring us that although we are living in this world and enduring trials and tribulations yet we have peace. We have peace within our hearts. Though the world is falling apart we are at peace because it is within our hearts. One cannot be a Child of God and be so troubled and uneasy that you are unable to sleep well or develops hypertension or similar illnesses due to unnecessary stress.   Jesus, being the Government of Peace is for the world to come; it is not for this world. The Scriptures tell us that the devil will be destroyed and God shall establish a kingdom of Peace. Isaiah 28:16 tells us, ‘ Therefore, thus saith the Lord God, behold I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone a sure foundation he that believeth shall not make haste .  When reference is made of Zion it is speaking either about Jerusalem or the Church of God.  The Church of God is purchased and sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus bore our transgressions and suffered much for our redemption.  Thus, Jesus is our Tried Stone . Isaiah 53: 5 tells us, He was wound for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquity the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and by His stripes we are healed.   Sometimes as we go through our daily activities we often feel pressured and believe that we cannot go any further but we can because we can get the needed strength from God. Apostle Paul also had his moments of weakness and while in such situation he reassured himself and us with the thought that God’s grace is sufficient and His grace is made perfect in weakness. 2nd Corinthians 12:9, And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.   Having this confidence, our troubles should never create a blockage in our spiritual lives. We should recognise and allow the power of God to be our strength. Be reminded that we should never place our confidence in man. Psalm 118:8 tells us, it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. Proverbs 25:19 says, confidence is an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth and a foot out of joint.   While Jesus was traversing this earth, He had many followers many of whom were following Him for their own selfish reasons. Among those closest to Him was a betrayer, a doubter, one who denied and those who were concerned about position of authority. Jesus knew they were there but He placed His confidence in His Father. He knew that God is ever faithful. Based on Jesus’ experience we know that God desires us to suffer and remain faithful.  Yes, it is possible to go through your trials and remain faithful remember that for every problem -the solution is Jesus. Jesus suffered as a Tried Stone, He was beaten, mocked and jeered yet He remembered His mission and remained faithful. Jesus did not get any extra assistance to endure all these trials He was in human form just like you and me, therefore just as He suffered and endured you and I could too. If we only knew the power of our God we would not be moved by trivial things.   Jesus is also called a Precious Stone. He is a priceless stone, a rare stone.  In Exodus 28 the High Priest’s garment had on 12 precious stones set in the breastplate of judgement. On each stone was written the name of an Israelite tribe. Also, two onyx stones were on the ephod which went over the priest’s shoulders. One stone on each shoulder and on each stone was written six names of the tribes. The engravings were done in gold. Today we have no priest wearing the names on his shoulders or on his chest. Instead, there is only one Stone; Jesus Christ is the Precious Stone which represents us all to our Eternal God.   Having such a firm foundation believers should not be unstable and be swayed by every wind of doctrine or carnal desires. Every child of God should run the spiritual race and finish the course by God’s grace. Do you remember how Jesus slept while the ship was rocking? The other passengers were panicking but He was assured of His Father’s protection. When He was awakened, He calmly stood and said peace be still and everything became calm. This proves that God is the Real Authority. Therefore, as the storms howl in your lives be calm and spend a moment to speak to God; only He can give an environment of serenity and calm. If you have not yet acknowledged the saving and sustaining power of Christ, accept Him today. He is our Sure Foundation.      Writer - A. E. • Spiritual Growth through Forgiveness and Reconciliation

http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/   What is sin? Sin is the transgression of the law. In Matthew 22:37-40, "Jesus said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with thy entire mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." These two Commandments is a summary of the Ten Commandments. The first four Commandments signify love to God and the other six signify love to our neighbours. Any violation of the Commandments is a sin.  When we commit sin, we put up a wall between ourselves and God. God loves us deeply, but He hates sin so much that it causes separation between man and God. Although we rebel against God, He loves us so much that He sent His only Son to redeem us. Our sins are numerous and only the power of God can release us from our tendency to commit evil. The only way our sins can be forgiven, is when we receive the gift of salvation which Jesus made available through His death on the cross.  We are forgiven through Jesus Christ and reconciled to the Father by Him. Forgiveness and reconciliation are the most important tenets of the gospel. Without forgiveness of our sins, we face eternal separation from God. Anybody who dies being separated from God will be burnt to ash.   Although we crave Christ’s forgiveness, we are often unwilling to forgive others. When a person sin against us, the negative thoughts enter and a wall of separation is set up between us and the offender. This wall becomes a roadblock which hinders us from loving others as Christ loves us. Roadblocks breed bitterness and unforgiveness. It is not good to hold grudges. Remember that Jesus died to tear down the roadblocks between us and God which is caused by our sin and we are required to do the same to those who wrong us. Jesus told us in Matthew 6:15, ‘ But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”    During life’s journey there will be times when we must try to restore broken relationships with another person. Restoration is important because Jesus told us to love one another as Christ has loved us. Sometimes this may mean swallowing our pride and going to the person and tell them that you regret what you've done. Yes, you ought to try to restore broken relationship. Matthew 5:23-24 says, " Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there, thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift."   If you have wronged somebody and it has caused them to have something against you, then you should go to that person and try make things right? If the individual has offended you, you should be willing to forgive. Think wisely and do to others as you desire them to do to you. You must strive for reconciliation. Remember, your goal is to be reconciled with that person. Matthew 7:12, " Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."   It is often a lot easier for some persons to forgive others when they come and confess their sin than for them to ask for forgiveness. However, I would encourage everyone to ask for forgiveness and heal any seen or unseen rifts. When you go to somebody and ask for their forgiveness, you are helping them to break down the roadblock that the enemy may have put in their way. You are aiding them in removing an obstacle in their life that may be preventing them from living the life that Jesus wants them to live. Your actions will assist in breaking down a wall that the enemy has tried to setup between you and them.   After meeting Christ, your thoughts, actions and responses to situations will change. In your Christ like state, you will ponder your past behaviours and the Spirit of God will show you where you went wrong. As you identify persons whom you have offended it is imperative that you see them and discuss the issue. I know that it is impossible to remember everything or to go to everyone you have offended.  To ask you to do so is legalism, and such request puts a burden on you.   However, don’t be daunted, try your best to restore all the possible relationships and do not ignore any available opportunities. Restoration is not to be undertaken by mere human efforts but through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives direction and will make the impossible possible.   You may find it harder to forgive yourself than to forgive others. There is no need to unnecessary affliction yourself. Psalm 32:1 tells us, ‘ blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is hidden. ’ We are further reminded in Psalm 103:12 that, ‘ as far as the east is from the west so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.’  We need to stop blaming ourselves for not being good enough, and accept the fact that our sins have been forgiven. 1st John 1:9 reminds us that, “ if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” When God forgives us of our sins, He does not keep a record. In Isaiah 43:25 God said, “ I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake and will not remember thy sins ”   In order to receive forgiveness, we must first recognize that we have sinned, confess our sins, and then believe upon Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins. Remember that without the blood which Jesus shed on the cross, there is no forgiveness for our sins True repentance includes turning from our sins, and not continuing to walk in them. If you seem to struggle with compulsive sinful habits, you may need to be set free from a demonic influence. It may be necessary to renounce your sins out loud seek the Lord diligently through fasting and prayer.   Never let the devil blackmail you with guilt. Guilt can serve two purposes, it can show us the problem so that we might repent and receive forgiveness, or it can rub our mistake in our faces and make us feel hopeless. The Devil is known for putting guilt on people, and is known as the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10).   There is a vast difference between condemnation and conviction? First, I'd like you to ask yourself, "Why am I feeling guilty? What is the purpose of this guilt?" There is a force which generates your guilt; it could be God or it could be the enemy. God uses guilt to convict us of our sins so that we might change and make things better, whereas the enemy uses guilt to burden us down and make us feel hopeless about what we have done.   When God convicts us, it's so that we might recognize the problem, and work on fixing it. When the enemy condemns us, it's to make you feel like there is nothing you can do about it, and give you a terrible hopeless feeling. Therefore, ask yourself, "Is this guilt trying to bring me to repentance, or is it trying to tell me what a wretched sinner I am?" God’s desire is that we may be reconciled with Him and receive forgiveness from our sins. The enemy likes to show you the mess, while God wants to show you the solution.   If you have sins that you have not repented from, then by all means, repent and turn from your wicked ways!! If your sins are forgiven and the enemy is burdening you down with guilt, you may have to renounce the spirit of guilt, and command it to leave. Also, resist the Devil and he will flee from you  (James 4:7).   It is God's desire for us to believe upon His Son, Jesus for the remission of our sins, and to have a clean conscience that has been cut off from our past guilt. Hebrews 9:14 tells us, “ How much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” Hebrews 10:22 encourages us to, “ draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water .” Jesus’ love is limitless 1st John 2:12 assures that our sins are forgiven for Jesus’ sake.   Jesus’ love is boundless. He is always ready to forgive. Therefore, put your guilt at His feet and He will make your life new. I also encourage you to forgive those who had offended you and also to seek the forgiveness from those whom you have offended. Unforgiveness destroys your inner peace and outward beauty. It makes you sick physically and spiritually.   Do not give the devil the opportunity to use your own bitterness to destroy you. Ask the Lord to help you to roll away all obstacles that the enemy may have put in your way. When you forgive you are also assisting those who hurt you. Your actions will assist in breaking down a wall that the enemy has tried to setup between you and them.  Let the peace of God reign within you always.   PRAYER Father, I commit myself to You. Please help me to forgive as I desire You to forgive me. Please cleanse me of all bitterness and strife and give me a spirit of peace and love. Thanks for the gift of salvation and reconciliation and may I be more Christlike. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.   Writer - A. E. • REPENT

GENUINE REPENTANCE LEADS TO CONVERSION http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ If you are to obtain everlasting life you must repent . Repentance is expressing a godly sorrow for all the sinful acts committed. When you repent, you will stop doing the wrong and do what is right in God’s sight.   It is sad that though the words of God often expose sin and may bring about a feeling of remorse; people often refuse to repent. This is one reason why there is so much spasmodic religious behaviour within the assemblies. As soon as the ‘feel good’ feeling leaves the mind then the departure from the house of God begins. It is only through repentance of sin and acceptance of Jesus that one will stay in the faith. Unrepentant hearts is the reason for dismal and lacklustre worship.   To the unrepentant churchgoers it is very hard to serve God in spirit and truth. They think it a great trial to give up their ungodly companions and their sins. They do not enjoy a strong spiritual relationship; they are not cheerful and happy in the Master’s service. They are grieved because they have to break off from so many things which they love; they have to give up so much. Let it be known that true repentance leads to an abhorrence of those sinful things which were formerly loved.   God constantly calls for us to repent. Noah’s friends laboured on the ark but they were drowned because they did not accept the repentance message. They listened to Noah and helped him to build the ark but they did not believe that God was going to use a flood to cleanse the earth. They thought that Noah was not in his right mind. Moreover, they were enjoying their sinful lifestyle and had no intention to stop what they were doing.   Nineveh was a very prosperous city and the people practiced wickedness. They were idolaters who never worshipped the True and Living God although they would have heard about Him. When the people of Nineveh became sin sick, God sent Jonah to warn them. Jonah did not know that they would have been responsive to his message so he did not want to go but he had to because God’s decision is final. The people repented, urgently called on God and gave up their evil and violence ways (Jonah 3:5-10)   In Luke chapter 15 verses 11-24, we read about a parable which Jesus told about a wayward son and a loving father. The prodigal son left home to enjoy the life he thought that he deserved but he received sufferings instead. He became repentant after he felt the pangs of hunger and he became ashamed of his wretched state. He put aside his pride and decided that he was returning home. He was unsure of how his father and other family members would react to him returning home.   On reaching home, he told his father that he acknowledged that he had sinned against heaven and against God and was no longer worthy to be called a son. His father welcomed him joyfully. That’s how God will react when we repent of our sins and return to Him. Remember man was made to worship God and God loves when we sincerely worship Him.   Christ told Peter that he would deny Him three times. Peter never believed that he could do such. When Peter actually denied Christ, he wept bitterly. (Luke 22:61,62). He realized his mistake and repented. After his repentance Peter became a mighty man of God. He was an outstanding ambassador and won many souls to Christ. Wouldn’t you want to be like Peter; all it takes is a repentant heart.   In Isaiah 55:7 we are encouraged to forsake our wicked way and evil thoughts and turn to the Lord. Jeremiah 26:13 tells us to change our ways and our actions and obey the Lord. Do you realize that if you are not obeying God, you are serving the Devil? Many do not see the importance of repentance but please follow the instructions of Psalm 32:5 - acknowledge your sins to God; don't cover up your iniquity and confess your transgressions to the Lord. If you do these things you will find everlasting life.   WHAT IS TRUE REPENTANCE?   True repentance means: You confess your sins 1st. John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness .   You don’t conceal sins, but confess what you have committed and seek God’s mercy. You renounce your sins by doing what is right, and get a new heart and a new spirit.  When you repent you turn away from all your offenses; rid yourself of all the offenses   True repentance gives you a change of heart; and motivates you to plead with God and turn back to Him with all your heart and soul. After repentance the Devil will be after you, therefore you must trust God to lead you in times of temptation.   Repentance causes you to sow good seeds, your actions are good, just and right. Like Daniel you pray for the sins of the nation, and seek the favour of the LORD by living holy and giving attention to God's truth (Dan. 9:4,5)   When you have repented you stop doing wrong, learn to do right, seek justice, encourage the oppressed and defend the less fortunate. Only through repentance can you hold on to faith and a good conscience (1st.  Timothy 1:19)   Your zeal to be righteous will lead you to pray for strength to rid yourself of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and filthy language from your lips. (Col. 3:5-10). You will make every effort to obey God and to walk the strait way.   A repentant heart is ashamed of past sins, think about God’s mercy, follow God's statutes and spend time meditating on God’s words. When all of this is done God will give a new heart and a new spirit.   Do you need to repent? Ask God to search you and know your heart; test you and know your thoughts; and remove any offensive way in you and lead you in the way everlasting (Psa. 139:23,24).   Don’t live according to the sinful nature, but by the power of the Holy Spirit. Put to death every sinful behaviour and trust in the Lord for strength.   By God’s grace keep yourself from idolatry and from being polluted by the world, put to death whatever belongs to your earthly nature; rid yourself of all anger, rage, malice, slander, lies, fornication, covetousness, and filthy language from your  lips. (Col. 3:5-10)   Rid yourself of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind; crave pure spiritual milk (1st. Peter 2:1,2)   Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech; turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it (1st. Peter 3:10,11)   Make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with God (2nd. Peter 3:14)   Have godly sorrow and an earnest desire to clear yourself (2nd. Corinthians 7:10,11)   Have a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart (Psalm 51:17)   Fear God and hate your sin (Psa. 36:1,2). Don't share in the sins of others; keep yourself pure (1st Timothy 5:22)   Avoid all sins listed in 1st. Corinthians 6: 9,10; Ephesians 5:3-7; Galatians 5:19-21 and Revelation 21:8   Make restitution for things you stole (Exodus 22:3-17; Luke 19:8-10)   Come near to God; wash your hands; purify your hearts; grieve, mourn and wail; change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom; humble yourself before God (James 4:8-10)   David said,' I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. My dear Readers, I trust that you will see the important of repenting of your sins. Our Lord’s Vineyard needs workers. There are numerous souls who need to learn about God’s boundless love. Won’t you accept the challenge. Accept Jesus as your Saviour today and have hope of everlasting life.   Let us Pray Loving Father, I thank You for the opportunity to turn from my evil ways. Thanks for sending Your Beloved Son, to die for me. I am not worthy of such love but through Your grace I am redeemed. There is much ungodliness happening in this world; yet You have not given up on us. I pray that everyone who hungers and thirst for You will find You and live in obedience to Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.      Writer - A. E. FISHER We welcome your questions and feedback.  You may contact us at ofthelivinggodchurch@gmail.com

  • SALVATION –EMANCIPATION-FREEDOM

SALVATION gives –EMANCIPATION and everlasting-FREEDOM   http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ 1st John 3:1- Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore, the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not .   Romans 8:1 -“ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:8 -  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.   Humans were created to worship God but we made a choice to disobey Him. Our disobedience to God has placed us into slavery. When we are enslaved by sin, Satan becomes our master. Thanks be to God for His grace of salvation which we receive through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. God not only offers us salvation; He provides for our daily needs.   Life is filled with numerous problems which comes in many forms. One ever present challenge is your day-to-day survival as you try to make two ends meet. Every day the cost of living keeps increasing and this may cause you to be  unable to satisfy your daily material needs as you desire. As you reflect on this problem you may feel a sense of hopelessness and frustration. However, be reminded that regardless of how you feel there is hope ahead. Do not become so despondent that you would prefer to end your life in an untimely manner.   How are you feeling now? Are you really happy and contented or are you tangled in a web of despair as you struggle to make ends meet? Do you feel as if you are alone and no one cares for you? Do you feel like a failure? How do you feel about the future? Are you feeling secure knowing that spiritually, physically and materially you are ready to enter the future or are you just going along unaware or in fear of what the future holds?   Jesus told you that you should not be overly concerned about your daily needs because worrying will not supply your needs. He said that God will supply all your needs therefore you should trust Him. Jesus said that instead of worrying about material and physical things you should first seek after the Kingdom of God and then God will supply your needs according to His desire for your life. (Matthew 6: 25-34)   Before sin entered Adam and Eve never experienced worry, because God supplied everything for them. They began to worry after they disobeyed God and the real problem started when God drove them from the Garden.   God gave us Ten Commandments which we ought to obey. They are our guideposts to righteousness. 1st John 3:4 tells us, “whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the Law; for sin is the transgression of the Law .” It is the Ten Commandments which expose our sins and our conscience convicts us that we are not walking in unity with God.   Hebrew 9:27 tells us that it is appointed unto men once to die but after this comes the judgement. Death is the most important appointment which everyone will ever keep. Thus, it is important that while we prepare for our important day to day activities and responsibilities we prepare for our final departure.   Death is so very final. Why do people die? This is a question that has been a troubling question throughout the ages. This is because it is humans’ desire to live forever. Most persons do not want to die although life in general is so unpredictable.   God created the universe by His might and excellence. He used six days to work and He rested and fellowshipped on the seventh day which is called the Sabbath. On the sixth day of Creation, God created man to enjoy this earth and all its beauty.   The earth and the humans were pure; there was no sin. However, this changed when Lucifer contended with God and was driven out of Heaven. He came to the earth with bitterness in his heart and the determination to spoil the friendship which humans had with God.   He succeeded when he got Eve to believe his lie and both Adam and Eve sinned against God. They were told by God that they could eat from the tree of life but were not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They ate the fruit which God had told them not to eat. Many believe that this fruit was sexual but it is not.   The Bible teaches us that the first task God gave to man was to procreate. Genesis 2:27, And God blessed them and God said unto them, “Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth …...” Thus, it is that we understand that God had given Adam and Eve the command to engage in sexual intercourse.   When sin entered this earth, everything changed.   Romans 3:23, “For  all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. ” Death became the reward for sin. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Sin takes away our freedom and places us in bondage. Sin separates us from God.   Can we regain our relationship with God? Yes, we can. Jesus is our Freedom Fighter and Emancipator. He left His Heavenly throne and came to this earth where He was born as a babe and lived as a Servant of God. His mission was to redeem us back to God. Only He could complete such an awesome task. Alleluia!!! Praises be to His name. Acts 4:12 tells us, “ Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved .”   John the Baptist was the forerunner for Jesus. He came to make persons aware that Jesus was coming as a Saviour to offer hope to the hopeless. Therefore, when he saw Jesus he proclaimed, Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.”  (John 1:29)   Before Christ came to die for us. Animals were sacrificed and their blood was offered as an atonement for sins. Just as we now pray daily to the Lord so would sacrifices be offered daily in the Temple. People would take their sacrifices so the Priests were very busy.   Offering daily sacrifices for sin was a very tedious task so God had to set aside the tribe of Levi to minister in His Temple and to follow His instructions and http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ execute the different Laws of the Ordinances.   Once annually there is a National Day of Sacrifice. This day is the Day of Atonement.  On this day the High Priest in Israel would offer sacrifice to atone for the sins of the people.    The blood of animals, the different offerings and ordinances were insufficient to suffice for the sins of mankind. A much better sacrifice was needed. Hebrews 9:28 tells us “So  Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation .”   Yes, while under the Old Covenant the Priests had to offer sacrifice daily; it is not so under the New Covenant. Jesus only died once and His offering is still valid today. Thus, it is, that when Jesus died on the cross the Old Blood Covenant was broken and we are now enjoying a New Covenant.   Have you accepted Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Are you enjoying the freedom which He gives? If you have not accepted God’s plan of salvation you have not yet begun to live.   Why is salvation necessary for us? Sins makes salvation necessary. The word salvation has its root in the word salvage. When you accept Christ as your personal Saviour He will reclaim your life from the clutches of the Devil. He is the only One with the power and authority to dispel every dark cloud and to renew your life.   Sin destroys and often causes what seems to be irreparable damages. It destroys lives and relationships. As you travel along the roadways you will observe many wrecked vehicles; some are so badly damaged that all you can see is twisted metal. This is how lives wrecked by sin will seem.   While humans are unable to repair the remains of a wrecked vehicle God is able to repair anything no matter how damaged.   Come to Christ and experience real love, freedom and friendship. Escape the bondage of sin. Let Him remodel your life.   Only Christ can emancipate us from the slavery of sin.    Writer - A. E. • WHAT HAPPENS AFTER DEATH?

What will happen after you die? Are you worried about dying? Are you spiritually prepared for dying? God gives us life and we are accountable for what we have done between birth and death. http://www.pillarandgroundofthetruth.online/ The clock of life is wound but once, no one has the power to tell when the hand will stop.  Now is the time you own, live, love, toil with a will. Place no thought on tomorrow for the hand may then be still.” Everyone would want to live forever, but the breath of life is given to man for a limited time. Psalm 90:10 says “ The days of our years are threescore years and ten, and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years….. it is soon cut off, and we fly away” Therefore we are aware that man was not placed on earth to live forever. As a result we are encouraged to seek the Lord while the blood is running warm in our veins. All of us have an appointment with death: Hebrews 10:27 says, “ And it is appointed unto men once to die and after this the judgement.   What happens when one dies?   The Bible says; when one dies his thoughts perish. “ His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish  (Psalms 146: 4). Man did not become a living soul until God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life in Genesis 2:7. Therefore man returns to being a dead soul once the breath of life is removed from him. Ecclesiastes 9:56 says “ For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love and their hatred and their envy is now perished, neither have they any more a portion for ever in anything that is done under the sun.”   No one will be able to accept the Lord as a Saviour after death as the Psalmist states in Psalm 6:5 “For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?” Psalm 115:7 clearly points out that the dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down in silence . However, a chance remains for those persons who did not know or hear about Jesus before they died. Such persons will be given the opportunity to choose or reject Him during the one thousand years reign of Christ. In John 11:25 Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in Me though he were dead, yet shall he live.”   Here one is promised life after death. How can one receive this?  Proverbs 14:32 says “ The wicked is driven away in his wickedness:  but the righteous hath hope in his death.”  Jesus told His disciples that if a man keeps His sayings, he shall never see death. The sleep of death will end for the Saints when Jesus returns and just as how Jesus rose from the dead, Saints will also rise to be like Him.  Psalm 49:15 tells us that God will redeem our soul from the power of the grave: for He shall receive us .   Are you a Child of God? If you are, even after dying you have a special privilege as we are told that the dead in Christ will rise first (1st Thessalonians 4:16).  There is the promise that the hour is coming when all that are in the grave shall hear the voice of our Saviour. We will come forth and those who have done good unto the resurrection of life and those who did evil to the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29). It is good to live a life for God and receive the resurrection of life, a wonderful promise given to the Saints. This reward will only be to those who keep the Commandments of God and the Testimony of Jesus.   It is commonly believed that a person who dies goes to heaven but the Bible declares that “ No man hath ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven…”  John 3:13. When one dies that person remains in the grave in an unconscious state until the day of judgement or until Jesus comes to collect the Saints. Read Revelation 20.   You are not without hope my friend, believe now on Jesus. Live in obedience to the will of God and when Jesus returns you too will be ransomed from the power of the grave. With Christ one can live again!! Think about the glory that awaits the Saints. Writer - A. E. FISHER     We welcome your questions and feedback.  You may contact us at ofthelivinggodchurch@gmail.com
